New Servers

For those of you who have been with Roaring Aardvark Web Services for awhile, you know about the move we made to new servers back in June and July. As you know the decision to move was made due to increasingly poor service and frequent down-time with our old servers. The move to our new servers added some features that many of you have enjoyed. << More

SPAM SPAM SPAM

We have the opportunity to offer additional SPAM filtering to our customers. This is beyond what can be set up via your webmail interface. It a bit more heavy-duty than what you may have now. The cost of this additional service is $15 a month. If you would like to order the added filter for your web site, give us a call and we’ll set it up in generally two days.

Are you confused by the files that are on your web site? Files that are on a web site are called bitmap images (also known as raster). These bitmaps are broken up into a series of pixels. For example a graphic that is 150x150 pixels has a total of 22,500 individual pixels. (This translates to about a 2 inch square.) The make up of pixels is referred to as the resolution of the image. Resolution is measured by pixels per inch (ppi); the more pixels there are in each inch, the higher the resolution. The high resolution causes the file size to be larger as well. In order to keep the file size down for faster loading on a web site, we optimize the images to make sure they are all down to 72 ppi, standard screen resolution for the web. >> More

While randomly surfing about on the internet, you decide to check out the web site of the new blockbuster film you're dying to see. You enter the web site and are instantly captivated by the imagery and animations. What an awesome web site! After viewing the intro trailer, you decide to pop around in the site to find out more about the movie. You glance at the left hand side of the page, no navigation there. Then your eyes move to the top, nope still no navigation. You look to the right, still a big negative. Feeling a bit confused and slightly frustrated you're about to close out the site when out of the corner of your eye you catch a couple of jiggling fiddly bits at the bottom right hand side of the page. Could that possibly be the navigation? You mouse over the fiddly bits and determine that they are indeed buttons of some sort. You mouse over one and wait for an indication of where it goes. Nothing. You decide to click on it to see where it takes you. Instead of taking you to a semi informative page, you wind up on a page with a collage of pictures and yet even more squirming fiddly bits. That is the last straw, you exit the site with no intentions of ever returning. What a horrible site! >> More
